Bio - Su Rogers
A NSCAD graduate (BFA), I am a painter living in Lunenburg, N.S. I have painted and exhibited my work for over 30 years having a lengthy exhibition history in Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland.
My work has been purchased by the Nova Scotia Art Bank, the City of Ottawa Art Collection, the City of Nepean Art Collection, Carleton University Art Gallery Collection, Corporate Collections like the Pictou Advocate, Pictou, N.S.. My work is in private collections in Canada and the USA. Several of my images can be seen on Canadian small press book covers.
I maintain a studio in Lunenburg and have been long interested in depicting fishery related imagery, most specifically when I was shocked into awareness of the fragility of our environment in the oceans during the Cod Moratorium in 1993.

I have studied under Gerry Ferguson, Michael Fernandez, Ken Lochead, Richard Gorman, Gary Wilson and many others.

I was born in Halifax, N.S. at the old Infirmary. A monumental Jesus hung on his cross facing the Queen St. side. I was not born alone. My identical twin beat me to land by 10 minutes.
Perhaps the bizarre world of being brought up in army camps, where deprivation and attention to strictness led me look to artwork as way of controlling my own environment and letting my mind run free.

Double dutch, hop scotch, rubber ball and glass-eyed alleys and crystals shot into little hand-dug holes and playing 'for keeps' were our ipads.
Personal Notes
I wore this dress when I was younger but could never squeeze into it now even though I wish I could. I still have it hanging in my closet. It is in pristine shape.

The dress was likely made on Newcastle Street, in Dartmouth, when my grandmother came to live with us after my dad volunteered for the Korean War with the Canadian Army for one year. Three little kids and my mom - I can still remember Nanny sitting in the dark hall with the little light on the Singer sewing machine making pieces of clothing and dolls clothes for us which we made our kitten wear.
Herr Rudi Rudolph is my studio dog. He is eight years old, born in Shelburne, N.S.. He is a red miniature dachsund. Rudi is both bold and nervous all wrapped up in the same little package.
He is named after my grandmother Margaret Rudolph Rogers from Pictou, N.S., born in Port Bickerton, N.S.
Rudi is into performance art.

Historia Atlantica
video tour of assemblages
In her exhibition Historia Atlantica – Wunderkammers, Lunenburg artist Su Rogers displays miniature assemblages of curiosity inside reworked vintage cabinets.
